Haidian Life Hacks
Tips and tricks to make life around the Haidian District that much easier.
The Walmart Near Zhichunlu Station:
When you exit the station, step out at Exit B and take a left. Just a few steps away, looking left, you'll see the entrance to the Walmart. Wind your way through the shops in the entrance building and you'll find yourself inside the supermarket. It's a few floors, all with different departments, so weave through until you reach the cashiers (which will always be moving slowly). After paying, be sure to follow the signs to the subway, and walk back through those same shops to make it back to the exit efficiently. If you miss this step, you'll want to take the outdoor steps upon walking outside, and following that to the subway. Otherwise, the station can be a bit of a difficult find.
Rush Hour at the Wudaokou Subway Station:
Time your trip wisely! This station gets very congested at 5 p.m. - right in time for the subway's notorious rush hour. The lines leading in will wrap all the way to the nearby police station. If you can get there before or find something to do around Wudaokuo until closer to 6:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. If you need to be on that train, you can also walk your way over to the Qinghuadonglu Station (Line 15).
When Midnight Strikes at Bridge Cafe:
Year round, both the second and third floors of the Bridge Cafe are open for business. (The rooftop is open, too, when the weather is nice enough.) But for those wining, dining or working late, they'll usher you from the rooftop and third floor to a table on the second. So if you're mid-brilliant thought, be sure to either wrap it up or move down prematurely.

Or, "Do you have change?" Small bills and coins are incredibly useful, especially when frequenting street carts and small shops. Often, they won't want to break a ¥100 bill, leaving you without your bottle of water, etc. It's always best to keep the coins and ¥1 bills in your wallet or purse.
