Overview: Paul French and his book, "Midnight in Peking", came at just the right time for my overworked brain. Tired of sifting through dry facts and confusing names, I was enthralled at once by this exciting historical nonfiction adventure. Instead of overwhelming my senses with facts and details, it told the tale of centuries-old Beijing through a murder mystery of sorts. Book Review: "Apologies to My Censor"
Written by journalist Mitch Moxley, published in 2013
Overview: As an expat living in Beijing, China, Moxley worked as an employee of the China Daily for a number of years, freelancing on the side in an attempt to tell impactful stories from China and its neighbors. In his book, he recounts experiences being cast in a Chinese music video, searching for sources for his latest article and working as a journalist during the 2008 Olympic games, among others.
